*Remote Workspace Requirements*


1. The remote machine must meet the same OS requirements as WIN-911 2021.  You can find these requirements here -> https://www.win911.com/resources/documentation/  under WIN-911 2021 Technical Documents.


2. Communication between the two machines is established on TCP ports 80 and 4020.  Instructions for creating Windows Firewall rules in Section C.  Advanced network configurations will require assistance from your network administrator. 


3. Any user running WIN-911 2021 Remote Workspace must be given permissions (read/write, or sysadmin) in the WIN-911 SQL instance.  See Section D for steps to add a user to the SQL instance.

Note: If using Local Administrator accounts, the NAME and PASSWORD on each machine needs to be identical.


A. Download Remote Workspace


WIN-911 2021 Remote Workspace can be downloaded from https://www.win911.com/support/support-downloads/ under 2021 R2 Component Installs.

 


B. Install Remote Workspace


Run the WIN911_Workspace.exe to begin installation.  

The first window will install the pre-requisites required to run WIN-911 Workspace.  

Click Install to begin installation of the pre-requisites.


Click Next on the following window to begin installation.


Accept the License Agreement to continue the installation and click Next.


Specify the user account and password to run the WIN-911 Workspace and click Next.  

Note: This account must have access to the WIN-911 SQL instance.  You can click Browse to find the account, or enter it manually in the following format:  ComputerName\User -or- DomainName\User


Enter the IP Address of the WIN-911 machine this Remote Workstation will be connecting to and click Next.


Click Install to finalize previous settings and begin installation of WIN-911 Remote Workspace.


Click Finish once the installation is completed.


You will find the WIN-911 Workspace shortcut by clicking on Start and scrolling down to the WIN911 folder.



C. Windows Firewall Rules for Remote Workspace


Launching WIN-911 Workspace immediately following the installation will most likely result in the following screen:


This indicates that this Remote Workspace is not able to communicate with the main WIN-911 system.  If both computers are on the same network range, creating an inbound and outbound Windows Firewall rule will allow WIN-911 Remote Workspace to function.

Open Control Panel and click on System and Security.  


Click on Windows Defender Firewall.


Click on Advanced Settings.


Select and then Right-Click on Inbound Rules and click New Rule...


Select Port and click Next.


Select TCP and Specific local ports and type in 80,4020 and click Next.


Select Allow the connection and click Next.


Select which connection type the rule applies to and click Next.


Enter in a Name and Description and click Finish.


The same rule must be created for Outbound Rules.  Select and then Right-Click on Outbound Rules and click New Rule...


Select Port and click Next.


Select TCP and Specific local ports and type in 80,4020 and click Next.

Select Allow the connection and click Next.


Select which connection type the rule applies to and click Next.


Enter in a Name and Description and click Finish.


Launch Remote Workspace after creating the rules will allow a successful connection.



D. Add a User to WIN-911 SQL Instance

  

Launch SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the WIN911 SQL Instance.  Expand the Security folder and right-click on Logins and select New Login...


Click Search... to locate the user account you would like to add, then click OK.


Under Select a page, click on Server Roles and then check the box for sysadmin role.  Click Ok to finalize the new user.


Repeat the steps to add as many users as needed.
