If you would like to make a call from a digital network, you will be required to have the phone line go from a modem to an analog-to-digital converter box. Then, an Ethernet cable will go into the network and make a connection to the digital phone system.

The MultiTech TAPI modem is an analog modem and requires an analog phone line.

An analog telephone adapter (ATA) turns any standard analog phone into a device capable of completing calls in a Voice Over IP (VoIP) network. For outbound calls, the ATA converts analog to digital signals, which local computer networks and the internet can understand. The recommended ATA device is the Cisco 190 Analog Telephone Adapter.
