Decision Blocks provide users with a method of branching notifications based off of a simple question. If it meets the requirements, the logic will branch to the right, if it does not, it will branch to the left. A combination of questions and methods can be utilized in a single Tactic to reach the desired goal.

This article will delve into a potential scenario where you can utilize the Timespan Decision Block in a Tactic and Strategy with minimal configuration.

Timespan Decision Block

The Timpspan Decision Block will branch based off the defined Timespan, this includes: From the alarm’s start time, the last alarm state change, from the Tactic’s start time. If the alarm falls after the defined time threshold, it will branch right, if it is within the time frame, the logic will branch left

In the City Water Plant, there is a set critical alarm that needs to be handled in a timely manner, however, the operations manager does not want to notify the entire crew, as they have other tasks in front of them, he just wants to notify Rayne, as he is the lead on these types of matters. But because these are

critical alarms, there needs to be some contingency in place.

In order to achieve this behavior, two parts need to be configured, the correct Tactic, and a Strategy that will properly utilize the Tactic. The Timespan Block needs to have the property “From the alarm’s start time” checked, and it needs to have Rayne on the left side, as he is the lead, and the notification is within the time frame, while the rest of the crew is on the right, as they are the contingency.

The Second portion of this is to set the correct Strategy to utilize the Block properly. You will notice that the Initial Event in the Strategy triggers the Timespan Tactic, however, there is another condition defined that Upon Repeating Timer of 5 minutes, it will restart the Tactic. Over the span of an hour (defined in the Block) the logic will branch right, notifying everyone. The Stop Strategy is user defined.
